Season 1 of the Paramount+ series is coming to an end this month already.
The show stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprising their fan-favorite roles as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David.
Per Paramount+, the show picks up after Ziva’s supposed death when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then—and where we find them in NCIS: Tony & Ziva—Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.
Now, the lead stars and showrunner are speaking out about the possibility of a second season.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva has not yet officially been renewed or cancelled for Season 2.
“I think we’d be lucky to play these characters…Season 1 was like a dream. It was so much fun to go back and revisit these characters. Where this goes, we know not,” Cote told TV Insider.
“We’re just grateful that we got a chance to do it, and the rest is the rest. If we got a chance to do it again, we’d be thrilled.”
Showrunner John McNamara offered his take on more seasons, and said that he’s “just focused on finishing this season and trying to make it as good as possible.”
“And honestly, it is going to be entirely up to the fans and the subscribers to Paramount+ and ultimately to Paramount and CBS. It’s their property and it’s their money,” he added.
At Comic Con in October, the stars addressed the possibility of a cameo from Mark Harmon‘s Leroy Jethro Gibbs in a potential Season 2.
“You never know. Right now, obviously the show’s taking place in Europe, because the characters are living, and they’ve made a life, in Europe, but I have no idea where the story may take them. We’ve joked around, we could be in Asia. We could be exploring different continents, even. But if the story took us to Washington, why not?” Cote told ScreenRant.
“So here’s the deal with Mr. Gibbs. He has his little giblets out there. He has all of his little his gravy train fans, and they’re out there. Yes, they wear little silver hats, because he has the silver hair, and they’re his fan club. Mark Harmon would be my No. 1 favorite thing if we could do season 2, and Mark Harmon just [does] a fly-by head slap. I’m in for a penny, in for a pound,” Michael added.
The show currently has an 80% Rotten Tomatoes score, and an 84% audience rating.
Stay tuned as we wait to hear the show’s fate with Paramount+! In the meantime, find out which shows the network has officially renewed so far.
