A Massachusetts couple, who booked their two dogs into a local PetSmart PetsHotel for their wedding, had a special surprise waiting for them when they returned to pick up the pups.

Hayley and Matthew were unable to find any pet-friendly wedding venues for their nuptials — due to costs and availability — so they ended up having to go without their beloved dogs for two days in order to celebrate their wedding, per Newsweek.

The couple told the outlet that they found a fun way to still include their dogs, Jeter and Ronnie, in their big day by featuring their faces on centerpieces and drink menus. They even treated guests to a doggie treat bar courtesy of PetSmart, which helped make it happen.

To make the couple feel better about their dogs not having been there for their wedding, employees at their local PetSmart treated them to a special surprise. Not only were their pets given a spa day, they also had a wedding-themed photo shoot, as if they were at the nuptials themselves.

Photos show the pair of canines dressed to the nines in suits for the photos. They each wore a gray suit fitted around their torsos that came complete with a white shirt and a black bow tie.

The photos were printed out and framed for the couple and gifted alongside a print of the dogs’ paws, dog toys, custom collars, bandanas and an embroidery of the dogs’ faces.

“It just goes to show [PetSmart] really does care,” the couple told Newsweek.

They opted to share this generosity with their loved ones who attended the wedding by using the photos as their “thank you” cards. The photos and paw prints also served as a reminder of Jeter, who died shortly after the wedding, per Newsweek.

“Having them do the photos and paw prints means so much more now,” Hayley told the outlet, adding that the little mementos were a way to remember Jeter forever.

Parker Adkins, communications manager at PetSmart, who helped set up the surprise, told PEOPLE in a statement that after hearing about the couple’s wedding situation, “we knew immediately we had to find a way to bring the wedding” to their beloved pups, so they “could still be a part of this special day.”

“Our mission is to help pet parents experience more joy with their pets, and Hayley and Matthew couldn’t be more deserving,” Adkins explained. “Jeter and Ronnie have been part of our PetSmart family for years, often visiting for Doggie Day Camp and PetsHotel stays. Jeter had been visiting us for over 10 years.”

“We’re grateful for the Chelmsford store team who brought this moment to life and are honored to help create a memory this family will cherish forever,” he added.
