Erin Napier is sharing her biggest tip for upgrading a home space on a budget.

Erin, 40, spoke with PEOPLE alongside her husband, Ben Napier, 42, for a recent PEOPLE in 10 video. During the conversation, she said that she recommends adding one simple item to elevate almost any room: a quilt.

“I have a kind of boring, very comfortable massive sofa that was my mom’s,” she explained. “I had it reupholstered in like a beige oatmeal color. But I wrap it in a suzani quilt that’s super colorful. Without having to paint the room, you can just add color that way.”

The HGTV star, who is mom to daughters Mae, 4, and Helen, 7, also shared some practical advice for staying present with her kids.

“They’ve never had devices,” she said. “They’ve never held phones or tablets or iPads. We’re trying to live like it’s our childhood again. We let them watch things on TV, all of us together as a family. We have movie night every night — it’s not like we don’t have TV time … So, living slower,” she said.

The Home Town star and her husband went on to share that this past year has been about reminding themselves that they are capable of doing hard things.

“The 2025 is when we did the doing. That was the ‘We can do hard things year,’ ” Erin declared in the PEOPLE in 10 video.

“We went to Scotland,” Ben added. 

“Yes! That was a big fear for me. Crossing the ocean,” Erin explained.

They shared that they also started homeschooling their kids this past year.

“We started homeschooling,” Ben said. “And we’re doing it. [Every time] when we say it, people are like, ‘Oh, did you hire a tutor?’ And we’re like, ‘No, we’re the tutors.’ ”
