A professional bridesmaid is revealing the secrets of her trade.
Tash Scott, a wedding planner and professional bridesmaid, shared a bit about her duties as the latter on the Today Show Australia and shared under what circumstances couples hire her for their weddings.
“It really depends on each couple. Everyone’s a little bit different but generally people are bringing me in because they either have a bridal party [that] are inexperienced [or] they might not have done this before,” Scott said.
“They’re wanting someone that is professional coming in and kind of rallying the troops…,” she added.
When asked if she is also “offsetting” any other wedding members that are more difficult to deal with, Scott agreed. She said that she is there at the wedding party to help “calm any tensions.”
“It is really good to have someone that is unbiased [and] just kind of a professional person. I do find it gives everybody a bit of a calming energy to just have someone [like], ‘I’ve got this don’t worry,’ ” the bridesmaid-for-hire said.
There are also many times that brides have had to rely on her expertise during wedding emergencies, and Scott noted that there’s always at least one mishap on the day of the nuptials.
“I had a bride, her shoe broke just as she was about to go down the aisle,” Scott recalled. “This actually recently happened — I always carry a kit on [the] wedding day, whether I’m a coordinator, planner or a bridesmaid — and I pulled out my super glue.”
“I glued that heel back on and sent her down the aisle,” she added, noting that she’s also “sewed many [dresses]” too to avoid wedding meltdowns.
As for when it comes to integrating herself into the wedding party, Scott said that she meets with brides and their bridesmaids several months ahead of their wedding to build a rapport with them before heading into the big day.

"We do generally, the bride and I form a relationship, because you are connecting with them 6-12 months before [the wedding],” she said. “But I do find that it’s handy to meet the bridal party before the wedding so we can start forming that relationship.”
Scott said that she was ultimately proud of her job and getting to help brides make their wedding day that much better, saying, “It does feel like you are just coming in to settle the tensions, you’re there to help everyone."
