Katie, sister of the late NHL stars Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, announced on Thursday, Feb. 26, that she and her husband, Devin Joyce, are expecting their first child.
The couple posted an Instagram video in which Devin can be seen with his back to the camera, with Katie standing behind him and slowly hugging him. She wrapped her arm around him, revealing a pair of baby sneakers in one hand, then lifted a sonogram with her other hand.
Then, Devin turned his hat backwards towards the camera, and it read, “Dad.” Katie then went in to hug him, and the top of her head showed a hat that read, “Mom.”

Katie and Devin’s pregnancy announcement comes less than a year after the high school sweethearts tied the knot in July 2025.
The couple married nearly one year after they canceled their Aug. 30, 2024, wedding following the deaths of Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29. On the eve of the couple’s wedding, the NHL stars were struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver while they were biking. They were to serve as groomsmen at her wedding the next day.
Katie told PEOPLE at the time of her wedding that she and Devin knew that Johnny and Matthew would have wanted them to embrace the moment and all the love surrounding them.
"John and Matty always celebrated the people they loved with their whole hearts, and they would want this day to be about celebrating the love I've found and the life Devin and I are building together,” she said.
"Most of all," she added, "they'd want me to know that their love didn't end — it lives on in every celebration, milestone and moment of happiness in my life, especially my wedding day."

Months after the brothers died, on Dec. 29, 2024, Matthew’s wife, Madeline, welcomed her first baby, Tripp Matthew. Days later, she shared she knew Matthew was watching over her. "Had Matty with me the whole time 🤍🤍🦋🦋🦋,” she wrote in her Instagram Stories.
Her sister-in-law, Johnny’s wife, Meredith, welcomed her and Johnny’s third child in April 2025. Meredith announced the news of their baby boy, Carter Michael, via Instagram. "We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever."
The following June, Meredith honored her late husband with an emotional essay on Father's Day.
"You were the best spouse," wrote Meredith, who also shares daughter Noa Harper and son Johnny Edward with the late hockey star. "My life partner forever. Happy first Father’s Day as a father of three!" she wrote. "Thank you for the very best years of my life. Thank you for making us a family. Thank you for being my best friend, my favorite person, the man of my dreams. I love you so much. Forever and ever."
