Erich Bergen is opening up about how he battled the same cancer that eventually took the life of Anthony Radziwill, the character he’s playing on the FX on Hulu series Love Story.
Anthony, who was the cousin of JFK Jr., passed away in 1999 at the age of 40 after a 10-year battle with testicular cancer. His death was less than a month after John and his wife Carolyn Bessette died in a plane crash.
The most recent episode of Love Story featured Anthony telling John that his cancer was back, and it “leap-frogged from my balls to my lungs.”
Erich took to his Instagram account on Monday (March 16) to talk about his own battle with testicular cancer.

“13 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer, the same cancer that eventually took Anthony Radziwill’s life after spreading. I’m very grateful to be here today to tell my story, and a little bit of Anthony’s in [Love Story]. Thank you to Ryan Murphy and Connor Hines for treating this topic with such care. For all of you men out there, next month is #testicularcancerawarenessmonth but I’m gonna get the ball (pun intended) rolling early. Let this be your reminder to do a self-exam and go to the doctor at the first sign of anything questionable,” Erich wrote.
Back in 2017, he opened up to People about the moment he learned he had cancer.
“That first time you’re told you have cancer is, at least for me, so dark. I remember being curled up on my couch: I wasn’t sad, I wouldn’t even call it scared. It’s a complete out-of-body experience where you feel like someone is shoving you against a wall, and you don’t know where to go or what to do,” he said.
Erich thankfully caught the cancer early, but said if he wanted or month or two to visit the doctor, that things could have ended differently for him.

We just learned why Anthony‘s widow Carole Radziwill is not being featured on the series.
