A Texas couple is speaking out after becoming parents to a rare set of quadruplets on Valentine’s Day. The couple conceived the babies while the mom was on birth control.

Adriana Luna and her fiancé Anthony Lerma welcomed four identical daughters — Amora, Analia, Arya and A’zura — according to ABC affiliate KIII.

Luna said she had an intrauterine device, or IUD, at the time she and her partner conceived the quadruplets, KIII and NBC affiliate KRIS-TV reported. While it's extremely rare for a person to become pregnant while using an IUD, it is possible. Becoming pregnant with an IUD in place "carries increased risks," according to Yale Medicine.

The mom said Lerma, who is a twin himself, “thought I was joking” when she broke the news of her pregnancy to him.

“Multiples does not run in my family, so this was something new,” Luna said. “And at the same time, I was excited, but also worried.”

Luna, who shares a 2-year-old son with Lerma, did not expect to have another baby, according to KIII.

Additionally, Luna had  just started a nursing program at Del Mar College when she learned about the pregnancy.

“I was actually one and done with my toddler,” she explained, “but they just came and they're a miracle because they weren't supposed to be here at all.”

Luna gave birth to the quadruplets at Corpus Christi Medical Center when the babies were at 29 weeks gestation, KIII and KRIS-TV reported.

All four were then taken to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and two have since been released.
