Clavicular, the controversial “looksmaxxing” influencer, walked out of an interview after he was asked about his associations with Andrew Tate.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia released on April 12, Clavicular — whose real name is Braden Peters — sat down with correspondent Adam Hegarty to discuss the “looksmaxxing” community, a controversial sect of the internet populated by young men who strive to maximize their attractiveness in often extreme ways, of which Peters is seen as a leader.

At the end of the interview, Hegarty asked Peters, 20, why he had spent time with “controversial figures” such as Tate, to which Peters appeared to get angry.

“I see you want to make this political,” Peters responded, then referenced a recent interview he had with Piers Morgan where he insulted Morgan's wife after he felt the interview became “too political.”

“Too bad I didn't have time to look into anything about who your wife cheated with, but don't try and go down that line of questioning with me,” Peters told Hegarty. “I'm not doing any political jestering.” (Hegarty clarified in the interview that he is "not married.)

He then abruptly stood up and had his microphone removed, telling Hegarty, “Thanks for the time. Appreciate the interview.”

In a statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for Peters said, “Clavicular has made it clear he's an expert on looksmaxing, not politics. When the journalist pressed him on a topic that isn't of his expertise, Clavicular shut him down. Clavicular is young, but he understands the media, and he can spot a dishonest reporter when he sees one.”

Peters and Tate have appeared on several livestreams together earlier this year, including one reposted by Tate on X where the duo had a run-in with the New York Police Department.

Tate and his younger brother Tristan Tate — popular personalities in the “manosphere,” a community known for promoting misogyny — face a total of 21 criminal charges, including rape and human trafficking, which they have denied.

Peters has also drawn attention over the last few years for a string of extremist and, at times, overtly racist acts on his livestreams, including the use of a racist slur and admitting to using illegal drugs, such as meth, to maintain his appearance.

Last month, PEOPLE reported that he was arrested by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department on battery charges, reportedly accused of instigating a fight between two women and then sharing a video of it online.
