Hailee Steinfeld voices an awkward teen who discovers magical abilities in Hexed.

Disney has released the first trailer for the magical coming-of-age adventure, which arrives in theaters on Nov. 25, 2026. The film stars Steinfeld, 29, Rashida Jones, Tracey Ullman and Stephen Fry in voice roles, and marks Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 65th animated feature.

The trailer introduces Billie Doe (Steinfeld), an impulsive, unconventional teenager who has always felt out of place, and her cautious mother, Alice (Jones, 50)

“My whole life, I felt like there was something wrong with me,” Billie says at the start of the preview.

After enduring taunts from classmates who call her a “freak” — and even criticism from her principal, who labels her a “pain in my butt” — Billie hides out in a school bathroom. There, she accidentally discovers something extraordinary.

When her bracelet slips under a stall, Billie unknowingly uses magic to pull it back. Startled by her newfound ability, she loses control, setting off a chaotic chain reaction that includes turning on faucets, levitating trash and sending a mouse floating through the air.

Things only get more complicated when Billie’s powers are exposed, and she’s expelled from school.

“I don’t even know where we go from here,” Alice says while driving Billie home from school.

That answer arrives sooner than expected. Billie is suddenly swept out of her ordinary suburban life and into Hexe, a hidden magical realm filled with witches, enchanted creatures and impossible wonders. There she meets Ms. Quill (Ullman, 66) and Elias Quire (Fry, 68), a living spellbook with plenty of opinions.

“We’ve been waiting for you,” Quire tells her.

“Do you have traits one might describe as strange or freakish or difficult?” Quill asks.

“I refuse to answer that,” Billie replies, to which Quire adds, “That’s a yes.”

From there, the trailer launches into a colorful, fast-paced adventure. Billie is literally thrown into the magical world, crashing into a “Wonky Donkey” sign along the way, as she begins learning how to control her powers. Along her journey, she encounters fellow witches, magical creatures and long-buried secrets tied to her family’s past.

“Maybe there’s nothing wrong with me at all,” Billie says near the end of the trailer. “Maybe I’m meant for something more.”

Directors Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with co-director Josie Trinidad, say the story is ultimately about finding where you belong.

“A wonderfully strange phenomenon is happening all around Billie, something she can’t explain,” Veerasunthorn said in a press release. “She’s someone who has felt miscast in her own life, and it takes leaving her normal world behind and entering a hidden world of wild, unhinged magic to begin to understand herself.”

Hand added, “Hexe is a place where Billie begins to feel seen for the first time in her life. She embarks on a journey of self-discovery that reveals a powerful connection to magic, and in the process uncovers long-held secrets about her family.”
