Get ready for more of the Descendants!
Disney announced on Tuesday, Feb. 25 that the fifth installment of the popular TV film franchise is in the works. The new film — which will have its official title announced at later date — follows the 2024 feature Descendants: The Rise of Red.
Descendants newcomers Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker will reprise their roles as Red and Chloe, the daughters of the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella, respectively. Leonardo Nam will also return as Maddox Hatter.
The upcoming film will be set primarily in present-day Wonderland and explore “what ‘happily ever after’ is really like for Red and Chloe, following their return from their time-traveling adventures,” according to the film’s official synopsis. “The sequel delves into the warning at the end of the previous movie: ‘There are consequences when you alter the fabric of time.’”
A few new descendants will join the franchise, including Liamani Segura as Red’s sister Pink, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal and Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook. More characters will be confirmed at a later date.
The addition of Segura marks a mini High School Musical: The Musical: The Series reunion for Cantrall , who starred alongside the actress on the Disney+ series.

“The love for the Descendants franchise runs deep, and the incredible response to Descendants: The Rise of Red last year proved just how much fans are invested in these characters and their stories,” Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said in a statement.
“Our next movie will build on that legacy and deliver even more of the magic, music and heart that make Descendants so special — brought to life by an amazing cast and creative team who continue to elevate this world in new and exciting ways.”
Rise of Red screenwriters Dan Frey and Ru Sommer are also returning to write the upcoming sequel alongside Tamara Chestna. The production is scheduled to begin soon, with Kimmy Gatewood directing the film.
The Rise of Red film, which premiered in July 2024, followed “polar opposites” Red and Chloe as they crossed paths “at a momentous celebration in Auradon when unexpected chaos breaks out,” per the official logline. But in an attempt to “prevent an impending coup, they must join forces to travel back in time, via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter’s son, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.”
