Warning: This post contains spoilers from the March 7 season 3 finale of The Way Home.

Among all the tears shed during the season 3 finale of Hallmark Channel’s The Way Home, were a few wedding bells ringing.

After Del (Andie MacDowell) asked to time travel for the first time, she and Kat (Chyler Leigh) landed in the 1970s just in time for her to watch her younger self (Julia Tomasone) marry the love of her life, Colton (Jordan Doww).

And no detail was spared, as is clear in PEOPLE’s exclusive photos from the fictional wedding day.

“[It’s] a love story for the ages,” Sadie Laflamme-Snow, who plays their eventual granddaughter Alice, wrote on Instagram about the happy couple.

Del’s dress “was an original creation designed by our head of wardrobe, Trysha Bakker, and hand-sewn by her team,” co-showrunner Alexandra Clarke tells PEOPLE exclusively of the gown worn by Tomasone for the episode. “It was based on typical bridal designs from the era. We knew we wanted to keep with young Del’s more preppy, classy, conservative style that reflects her affluent high society upbringing versus going too hippie and bohemian. But we also wanted to make the dress simple in silhouette and material to reflect the new (more frugal) life she is starting with Colton on the farm.”

One of Del’s accessories was a personal touch just for Clarke. “The bow headpiece was not only era-appropriate but it was also a fun little nod to my own wedding dress when I got married,” she admits.

“We had fun with this one!” Clarke says of Colton’s wedding look, worn by Doww. “Again, it was completely original and created by our wardrobe department. It was based off of suits we found in a 1974 department store catalog. We always knew we wanted Colton to wear brown to really root him to the Landry farmland he loves so much. And, of course, while keeping the suit pretty conservative overall, we had to go a little wild ’70s with the tie!”

“Fun fact: The arbor that Colton and Del get married under is a bit of an Easter egg for our most avid fans,” says Clarke. “It’s standing in the exact same place where the iconic outdoor dining pergola is built in the 1999 version of the farm (a setting for many a family dinner during that time). We basically wanted to say that a young Colton and Del put this little arbor up for their wedding and they loved it so much that they built a more permanent version in that very spot once they had a family. That’s what it’s all about on our show, after all!”

At this point in the season for present-day Del (MacDowell, with Leigh as Kat), “everything has been thrown into question for her about her love story with Colton and how she remembers it,” Clarke says of why she decides to time travel for the first time. “In order to give her this massive redemptive moment, she had to go back and see what is arguably the start of a chapter of their love story, but also the happily ever after moment of their teenage love story, which is this wedding. To know that her memories are hers, to know that she wasn’t wrong, that she shouldn’t doubt their love. It was exactly as she remembered it.”

“Our incredible set design team, led by Elliott Carew, handled all the decorations for the wedding. The color scheme of yellows, oranges and whites along with the daisies, carnations and foliage chosen were all a fun nod to the era,” Clarke says.

For the Love of Characters

“But we always kept our characters in mind — a newlywed young couple without a lot of money just starting out — so we didn’t want to make things too grand or inaccessible and wanted to use what would have been available to them at the time,” Clarke adds. “We decided on flowers and decor that would have been affordable but that also showcased Del’s classy, upscale eye from her former high society North Carolina life. In the end, the wedding really is a great combination of champagne style on a beer budget.”

Jasper Coyle (Eli Ham) paid Colton a visit before the ceremony and surprised him with the recording of music demo, which was rediscovered and played in 2025 to comfort adult Del as she struggled with some of the truths about her husband that had come to light.

“Kitty Kitty Kat” may not have been an expected guest at the 1970s nuptials of her own parents, but Colton’s quirky and mysterious grandmother (Jill Frappier) certainly was.

“We were just lucky,” co-showrunner Heather Conkie tells PEOPLE of the ’70s cast introduced this season, including Doww and Tomasone. “And the fact that they’re all so talented and that Jordan can sing and all those things just fell into place. They’re just amazing.”
