Alexis Bledel is returning to a project that’s as familiar to her as it is beloved by its many fans.
The Gilmore Girls actress, 43, will narrate the audiobook to a special 50th anniversary edition of Natalie Babbitt’s classic children’s novel Tuck Everlasting, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.
The Newberry Honor-winning book was originally published in 1975 and tells the story of Winnie Foster, a young girl who learns of the power of immortality after she meets the Tuck family, who are able to live forever after drinking from an enchanted spring. Bledel starred in the 2002 film adaption.

“It has been an amazing experience to revisit this world,” Bledel said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Tuck Everlasting holds a special place in my heart, having played Winnie Foster in the film many years ago.”
“Narrating this beloved story for its 50th anniversary edition is a wonderful journey back into a tale that challenges us to think about what it truly means to live a meaningful life,” she added.
In addition to the new audiobook, a special 50th anniversary print edition of the novel, along with an original graphic novel by K. Woodman-Maynard, will also be published simultaneously.

Bledel has previously starred in other page-to-screen adaptations, like the TV adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale and the 2005 film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, based on Ann Brashare’s 2001 novel.

The Tuck Everlasting audiobook will be available on Sept. 2 and is now available for preorder.
