Authorities have arrested a Tennessee mother after deputies say they found her daughter’s mummified corpse in her hotel room.
Kimberly Moore, 46, was charged on July 11 with abuse of a corpse and failure to report a dead body, according to a criminal affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.
On July 11, detectives responded to the Home Inn Suites in Memphis to check on Moore after the hotel manager claimed she made strange comments claiming her husband owned the hotel, per the affidavit. On arriving, she allegedly repeated to deputies that her husband owned the hotel and claimed she was present to ensure employees were “doing their job.”
While deputies were talking to Moore, they noticed a strong smell coming from the room she was staying in, but when questioned about it, she said she didn’t smell anything, according to the affidavit. But when deputies entered the room, they found Moore’s daughter, Chloe Moore, laying in the hotel bed unresponsive, cold to the touch, malnourished and mummified.
Once the medical examiner looked at her body, which was surrounded by flies, they determined she had been sitting “for quite some time due to loss of water,” which had caused her skin to darken and body to shrink, per the affidavit.

Deputies say Moore was then arrested and taken for questioning, where she refused to give a statement. She allegedly told detectives during her evaluation that her daughter Chloe was “still here with her and God is with her and her daughter,” according to the criminal affidavit.
When deputies questioned her more, she refused to reply and only stated, “God is with her and daughter” and “she reads her bible,” detectives then determined Moore to be in a state of crisis due to hallucinations of her daughter still being alive, per the affidavit.
Moore’s bail review hearing arraignment is set for July 15.
