Lauren Sánchez Bezos has a new children’s book in the works — The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea — and the story features more adventures with Flynn, the curious fly from her first book, The Fly Who Flew to Space, which was released in 2024.

“Flynn is brave and not afraid to get a little lost chasing curiosity. This time Flynn dives under the surface to discover a world we don’t see enough and one that needs us,” Sánchez Bezos says of the sequel, which will be published March 3 via Simon & Schuster and The Collective Book Studio.

The story follows Flynn on an underwater adventure after a wrong turn at Cape Canaveral, Fla. Flynn then learns all about marine life, including coral reefs and mangrove forests, undersea mountain ranges and even giant squid, as well as how precious — and how endangered — the oceans are.

“Here’s the beautiful symmetry: as we reveal the book, the Bezos Earth Fund is announcing a $37.5 million grant to help protect the Pacific and safeguard 835,000 square miles of ocean,” Sánchez Bezos says. “I’m proud that a story kids will love can sit right next to real action for the planet.”

The former news correspondent and journalist, who recently got married to tech giant Jeff Bezos in Venice over the summer, says that ironically, she’s still an analog girl at heart.

“Here’s my slightly spicy take: I’m a tech optimist … who still believes in paper at bedtime. Books, not bots. AI can summarize, but it can’t snuggle your babies,” the mom-of-three says.

“I believe wonder builds muscles, curiosity, resilience,= and courage. Kids’ books aren’t just cute, they’re gym class for the mind and heart. I’m excited that this story makes the ocean feel close, like a neighbor you want to protect. And yes, I’ll beat this drum: Books, not bots. Tech can be brilliant, but attention is precious. If Flynn can pull a kid off a screen and into a story, that’s a win for parents and life.”

As for her own favorite reads? She says she tends to reach for a mixture of fiction and facts.

“I rotate between mystery novels and morning briefings,” she says.

“I love a good proposal from the Earth Fund that challenges how I think. I’ll be honest, reading wasn’t easy for me growing up with dyslexia. Finding my way back to books as an adult feels like reclaiming superpowers I didn’t know I had.” She adds that she’s proud to have recently been declared a Literacy Champion for Scholastic’s United States of Readers. “I’m all in,” she says.

As for whether her kids will one day help her with a children’s book, the author says they’re already they main inspiration behind Flynn.

“Flynn was born on a flight when a tiny fly buzzed into the cockpit of an aircraft I was flying and my kids worried it got separated from its family,” she says. “We started imagining the adventure that little stowaway might be on. That became Flynn. Now the running joke at home is: “Uh‑oh, where did Flynn get stuck this time?” A backpack, a school bus, the deep blue … no place is safe from our brainstorms!”

The Fly Who Flew Under the Sea hits shelves on March 3, 2026 and is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.
