A man was seriously injured after falling off the back of a plane parked on an airport tarmac.
The incident occurred at Manchester Airport in England at around 8 a.m. local time on Saturday, April 11, per Metro.co.uk, Manchester Evening News and The Independent.
Witnesses said the man, who is believed to be an aircraft engineer, fell about 12 feet from a Jet2 plane after the movable rear stairs of the plane had been removed, per the Manchester Evening News.
Jet2 is a low-cost British airline that operates primarily within Europe.

The man, whose name has not been released, suffered multiple injuries, including arm and leg fractures, per the outlet.
Photos from the scene showed emergency vehicles surrounding the aircraft shortly after the incident, and medical screens were placed around the injured worker, according to Metro.co.uk.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital. His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening, per the outlet.

In a statement to PEOPLE, a Jet2 spokesperson said the airline is “aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport” on April 11, and shared that the individual involved was a “third-party provider."
“We are unable to confirm further details at present. However, [we] can confirm that a full investigation has been launched. We are doing our best to provide support to everyone who needs it,” the spokesperson added.
Manchester Airport confirmed that emergency services were called in response to the incident, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The plane was supposed to depart for Tenerife in the Canary Islands, per the outlet.
Manchester Airport did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
