Amber de la Mottes Wants Daughters to be 'Wives and Mothers'

Amber de la Mottes and her daughter may not see eye to eye on their career aspirations.

In a new teaser clip on TikTok for the TLC special Big Family, Big City — set to debut on Feb. 25 — the de la Mottes matriarch opened up to her daughters Pearl and Naomi about her desire for them “to have a husband… who’s interested in providing for you… [and a] family” when they’re older.

In the confessional, Amber also shared she believed her “boys should [grow up to] be providers… [and] I want my girls to prepare to be wives and mothers.”

In her conversation with two of her daughters — who are talented musicians — Amber explained, “You will find your fulfillment being a wife and a mother.” Naomi interjected and agreed that while she wants her husband to provide for the family, she still wants to maintain a career producing music scores for films.

Amber pushed back and said, “There’s a lot of things you can do from home when you’re ready to start a family, that would help support what your husband’s doing.”

“Just because I have a family doesn’t mean I can’t perform still… I want to play music,” Pearl added. “When I have a family, I don’t want to put aside my musical career for the sake of kids. It does seem a little strange to me that at the first baby, she would want me to drop my musical career that she’s put every bit of her life into [and] had the family move cross country [for].”

“If one of my girls decided to pursue a career and not have a family, I would kind of feel like I failed,” Amber elaborated in a confessional. “At a core level that’s a woman’s nature.”

As they juggle their growing family, a new lifestyle, and the challenges of busking together on the streets, the de la Mottes are finding that the fast-paced city life is both exhilarating and overwhelming.”
