NEED TO KNOW
- A bride texted the dress code for her wedding less than 48 hours before it was supposed to take place
- The text specifically asked guests not to wear white or red to the event
- A wedding guest who purchased a red dress was debating what to do on Reddit
A wedding guest was in a dilemma after the bride dictated what guests could and could not wear to her wedding less than 48 hours before it was supposed to take place.
In a post on Reddit’s “weddingshaming” subreddit, a woman revealed that she received a text from the bride saying “no red or white allowed at the wedding,” just hours before the event.
While the woman agreed that it is “fair enough” to ask wedding guests not to wear white as it is “a common courtesy,” she was a bit confused as to why she couldn’t wear red.

“I know the red thing [is] a thing in Asian weddings but neither of them or any of their families are Asian, they are 100% white British,” the woman wrote in the post.
Being that she purchased a “dark red dress” to wear for the wedding, the woman had no idea what to do.
“I went back over the invitation and all it says for dress code is cocktail attire, no mention of colour,” she explained in her post. “I’m now going to have to take this dress back and try and find something else after work today! I feel like just wearing it since she said so late but I don’t want to ruin her day.”

The woman ended her post by sharing that she was upset.
In the comment section, readers were mixed about how they would react to the situation.
One person said they would personally message the bride back to let her know that their dress has already been purchased and dry cleaned, noting that while they respect her wishes, it’s very short notice.
The person said it’s rude “to add these details so late” and that if it were an issue, it should have been on the invite.
