Jonathan Bailey had an emotional evening with his family and friends at Wicked: For Good‘s premiere in London.
During the actor’s Wednesday, Nov. 19 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, PEOPLE’s 2025 Sexiest Man Alive, 37, recalled crying while sitting with his niece at the event.
“I was there with my family and all my school friends and my niece was there. I was just watching her sit there and she was just completely taking it in, and I started crying and I couldn’t stop,” Bailey said, mimicking how he saw his niece sit forward in her chair during the screening.
“Actors are only [present] for like 15 percent of making these extraordinary films, so when you think of [director] Jon M. Chu and [producer] Marc Platt who has stuck with this for over 15 years, for me it’s been three years,” he added. “That London premiere felt like a real release, and I’m just so proud that now everyone gets to go and experience it.”

Earlier in Bailey’s interview with host Seth Meyers, the actor mentioned that his nieces and nephews were “really excited” about the Wicked sequel and enjoyed his performance in this summer’s Jurassic World Rebirth, too. “They’re particularly excited, but I don’t know who is more, either me or them, about the Lego pieces,” he said, noting the Lego version of himself produced for a toy tie-in to the movie.
When Meyers jokingly asked Bailey whether audience members at For Good‘s London premiere were distracted by one of the movie’s stars crying during the screening, he jested, “Well, especially because I was running up and down desperately looking for a hug with my Barbie and my Lego.”

Bailey stars alongside Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater and Marissa Bode in Wicked: For Good, which follows the second act of the popular Wicked musical. Bailey previously told PEOPLE in his Sexiest Man Alive cover story that he found watching For Good “just astonishing” when he saw it for the first time.
“And not just because of the art itself and the people in it — Jon, he was a genius, and obviously Cynthia, Ari, Jeff, Michelle and Ethan — but it’s going to resonate in a way that’s just spellbinding.”
Wicked: For Good is in theaters Nov. 21.
