An early morning apartment fire claimed the life of a 62-year-old man in Chicago's West Side, authorities said.
Police officers responded to a fire at an apartment building in the 3400 block of West Monroe on Thursday, April 9, at around 2:16 a.m. local time, the Chicago Police Department said in an email to PEOPLE.
Police said that upon arrival, officers found an adult woman and a 4-year-old child standing on the sidewalk while the Chicago Fire Department was summoned to put out the blaze.
Firefighters said they discovered an unresponsive 62-year-old male inside the building. He was treated at the scene and then taken to Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from injuries sustained from the fire, police added.

The adult woman and child were transported to the same hospital as a precaution and listed in good condition, authorities said.
Police added that no one was displaced from the fire.

Authorities did not identify the 62-year-old male victim. He lived on the first floor of the building, while the woman and the child resided on the second floor, according to CBS affiliate WBBM.
Both the Chicago Police and Fire departments told PEOPLE that the origins of the blaze are under investigation.
