A 65-year-old man died after falling 130 feet from the western side of the Grand Canyon.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue department recovered the man’s body on Thursday, Nov. 6. Officials said in a statement that the man slipped and fell over the edge.
The MCSO’s Search and Rescue team assisted the Hualapai Nation in recovering his body 130 feet down on a pile of rocks. The man’s body was located near Guano Point.
Hualapai Tribal Police Department, Hualapai Nation Fire and Grand Canyon West Security also assisted with the rescue. The crews used ropes to pull the man’s body from the canyon.
After the man’s body was recovered, it was brought to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s Office. The man is yet to be publicly identified.
PEOPLE has contacted the MCSO and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The death of the 65-year-old man comes shortly after a 27-year-old man plummeted to his death after the vehicle he was driving drove over a rim in Grand Canyon National Park in September.
The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center was notified about a vehicle with a single occupant that went over the rim near the South Kaibab Trailhead at around 12:40 p.m. local time on Sept. 7, the National Park Service (NPS) said in a press release.

“Park rangers responded immediately and recovered the body, which was located about 300 feet below the rim,” the NPS said. “The body was transported to the rim by helicopter and then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
