  • Two motorcyclists were injured after they were unable to avoid the collision
  • An investigation is ongoing, according to authorities

A toddler opened a car door on a busy highway in Malaysia’s capital, resulting in a six-vehicle collision.

The pileup occurred on Friday, Feb. 6, around 6:15 p.m. local time, when a Honda City was traveling along Jalan Tun Razak in Kuala Lumpur, Singaporean outlet AsiaOne, and Malaysian outlets The Star and The Sun reported. At that time, a 2-year-old child sitting on a relative's lap inadvertently opened the rear left passenger door, the outlets reported.

“It is believed that the child safety lock feature was not activated, allowing the door to be opened from inside,” Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, the chief assistant commissioner of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, told The Sun in a statement.

A 25-year-old man on a motorcycle “was unable to avoid the door and crashed into it before losing control and colliding with several other vehicles,” the official continued, adding that a 30-year-old motorcyclist traveling behind the other man was unable to avoid the collision.

The 25-year-old man broke his left arm and was transported to a local hospital, while the older rider suffered minor injuries, according to the outlets. No one in the other four vehicles was hurt.

Following the dramatic crash, which was caught on video, the incident is under investigation for inconsiderate and careless driving under the Road Transport Act, AsiaOne reported.
