An Alfredo sauce product has been recalled across the United States. 

Alfredo sauce made by The Coffee Connexion Co. Inc. has been issued the highest-risk recall in 41 states due to potential Salmonella contamination, according to an update from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on June 4. The Alfredo sauce was initially recalled on May 6.

The product from the Tennessee-based manufacturer “contains dry milk powder ingredient recalled by the supplier due to potential Salmonella contamination,” per the FDA.

The Alfredo sauce received its Class I recall, which the FDA states involves “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The recall affects 913 cases of the product sold in 3-lb., 7-oz. packages. The sauce is in a sealed poly bag that is packed 12 bags per case with the UPC 0039954921963. 

The expiration date on the product ranges from Jan. 12, 2028, to April 20, 2028. 

The Alfredo sauce was distributed in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. 

The recall is ongoing, and it is unclear if any illnesses have been associated with the recall. 

Salmonella is bacteria that can cause gastrointestinal illness. Most people infected with it will develop symptoms within 12 to 72 hours after infection, per the FDA. The illness typically lasts up to a week with most people recovering without treatment. However, it can be fatal.

Symptoms may include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps and high fever.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those at high risk of infection include children younger than 5 years old, adults over the age of 50 with medical problems, adults over the age of 65 and people with a weakened immune system.
