Married At First Sight groom Chris Nield has left social media users in stitches after revealing the cheeky trick he used to avoid helping a Facebook Marketplace buyer load a bed frame and mattress.
The former reality TV star shared the prank in a video that has amassed more than 178,000 views across Instagram and TikTok, with many viewers admitting they would have done the same.
In the clip, Chris films himself moments before the buyer arrives at his home to collect the bulky furniture as he debates whether he is actually expected to help lift it.
‘Someone is coming to pick up my old bed frame and mattress, and what’s the expectation?’ he asks.
‘Am I expected to put this mattress and bed frame in the back of his car? I’ve had a big day. I’m tired. I’m exhausted.’
While insisting he is usually the type of person who would lend a hand, Chris jokes that this particular day wasn’t one of them.

Instead, he comes up with an elaborate plan.
The video then cuts to Chris wearing an arm sling as he rehearses an excuse for why he cannot help.
‘I broke my arm. Fell off the scaffold. Fell into concrete. Six weeks out of action. Wish I could help,’ he says.
When the buyer arrives, Chris keeps up the act as the man loads the bed frame and mattress into his vehicle with little assistance.
‘Technically, it’s not mine anymore,’ Chris jokes to the camera afterwards while holding up the cash from the sale.
The stunt quickly divided viewers online.
‘You are going to hell,’ one person commented alongside laughing emojis.
‘Nah, fair play,’ another wrote.

Others confessed they had used similar tactics themselves, while some argued they would rather help simply to get the exchange over with faster.
Speaking after the video went viral, Chris admitted he has little love for Facebook Marketplace and the endless negotiations that often come with selling second-hand items.
‘I honestly hate Marketplace. The time you spend trying to communicate with someone who either tries to lowball you or push you to your limits is crazy,’ he said.
He also defended his decision, arguing buyers should generally expect to organise the transport of larger purchases themselves.
‘In my specific situation I had already dismantled and taken the bed frame to the other end of the house. I was well within my rights to sit back and relax. Although yes, I did feel guilty.’
Chris rose to fame on Married At First Sight Australia, where he was paired with bride Brook Crompton.

The couple ultimately left the experiment separately after failing to repair their relationship, making Chris one of the season’s most talked-about grooms.
