Elisha Cuthbert says that the process of making and starring in 24 was a “whirlwind.”
When catching up with PEOPLE to promote her new show, Every Year After, based on the book Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, Cuthbert reflected on the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Fox thriller.
“It's hard to imagine, really, the scope of it. It was a whirlwind, too. I mean, the success of it all was overwhelming and thrilling and exciting," she shares. "I have great memories of that time, but also, it was really intense too. We were working so much that the one-hour format… especially with all the action and all the intense night shoots, I mean, it was not an easy show to film."

Still, the 43-year-old says they did "the best we could."
"It was a well-oiled machine, but it still was a grueling schedule,” Cuthbert admits. “I don't know if I'd have the energy to partake in that again.”
While it was admittedly "a lot," she emphasizes that, overall, it was "amazing" and "groundbreaking."
"So it was special to be a part of," she adds.
Cuthbert played Kim Bauer, the only child of Jack and Teri Bauer, on 24, which premiered in November 2001 and ran for a total of nine seasons. The show centered on Jack, played by Kiefer Sutherland, an American counter-terrorist federal agent racing against time to save the world, his family and everything he cares about.

Each episode of the show was filmed to resemble one hour of the day, with each season portraying a full day. In addition to Sutherland and Cuthbert, the show starred Mary Lynn Rajskub, Carlos Bernard, Dennis Haysbert and Kim Raver.
When asked if she keeps in touch with anyone from the cast, Cuthbert admits, “On occasion, yeah.”
“It's amazing how many actors were on that show," she shares, noting that people often come up to her saying they appeared on an episode.
"We may not have really worked physically in person together, but certainly a lot of actors pass through over the course of eight seasons, and so we have that in common."
